91 for India, 44 for the UK, 1 for the US and Canada, 971 for the UAE, 65 for Singapore. If you paste a number that already starts with
+or00, the tool reads the country code from it. -
02 Type the number the chat should open with
Spaces and dashes are stripped, and Indian mobiles are checked for 10 digits.

The link goes anywhere that takes a URL. The HTML snippet is a plain
<a>tag that opens in a new tab, so you can paste it into WordPress, Shopify or any site builder and style it there. -
05 Test it on a phone before you publish
Tap the link on a phone and check the chat and message come through right.

Use Test the link in WhatsApp, or send the link to yourself and tap it. Check that the right chat opens and that line breaks and symbols in the message came through.
How a wa.me link works
A wa.me link holds the number in international format with no + or spaces, and an optional URL-encoded message. The tool encodes it for you.

WhatsApp's click-to-chat feature opens a conversation from a plain URL: https://wa.me/ followed by the full number in international format, with no +, spaces, brackets or leading zeros. So +91 93616 39274 becomes https://wa.me/919361639274.
A pre-filled message goes in the text parameter, and it must be URL encoded. Spaces become %20, a line break becomes %0A, and & becomes %26. Encoding matters: an unencoded & ends the parameter, so Prices & delivery would arrive as just Prices. The tool encodes everything for you, including emoji and Tamil or Hindi script.
Leave the number empty and you get https://wa.me/?text=.... That link opens WhatsApp with the message ready and lets the person choose who to send it to, which is how a share this with a friend button works.
The link works with the WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business apps and with WhatsApp Web on a computer. The number must be registered on WhatsApp, or the person sees an error instead of a chat.
Where to put the link
| Place | What to do | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Website | Paste the HTML snippet into a button, header or contact page. | Put the number in visible text too, for people on desktops without WhatsApp. |
| Instagram or LinkedIn bio | Paste the link into the website field. | Some apps open links in their own browser first; test from the app, not just your phone's browser. |
| Email signature | Link a line such as Chat on WhatsApp to the URL. | Keep the pre-filled message short so it reads well on a phone. |
| Printed menus, flyers, shop counters | Paste the link into any QR code generator and print the code. | Scan the printed proof with two different phones before the full print run. |
| Invoices and quotes | Add the link to the footer of your PDF template. | A message such as Question about invoice number helps you find the right record fast. |
When a link is not enough
A link only starts the chat. Once chats outgrow one phone, the WhatsApp Business API adds several agents and templates, and WhatsApp CRM routes leads to reps.

A wa.me link starts a conversation. Someone still has to answer it, qualify the lead and follow up, and that is where most small teams lose enquiries.
Once chats arrive faster than one phone can handle, look at the WhatsApp Business API, which allows several agents, approved message templates and integrations. Our WhatsApp CRM captures and routes those leads to sales reps, and our WhatsApp CRM automation service service connects them to the rest of your sales process. If you are unsure which you need, read WhatsApp Business API vs the Business app.
Questions
Does the link work with the WhatsApp Business app?
Yes. A wa.me link opens a chat with any number registered on WhatsApp, whether it runs the regular app, the Business app or the Business API.
Is the number or message I type stored anywhere?
No. The link is built by JavaScript in your browser. Nothing is sent to our server or to WhatsApp until you open the link yourself.
Why does the link say the number is not on WhatsApp?
Usually the country code is missing or doubled (for example 9191...), or the number has never been registered on WhatsApp. Check the digits after wa.me/: country code first, then the number with no leading zero.
Can I track how many people click the link?
WhatsApp does not report clicks on wa.me links. To count them, link to a page on your own domain that records the visit with your analytics and then redirects to the wa.me URL, or tag the link in the tool you post it from.
Can this tool make a QR code?
Not yet. Copy the link into any QR code generator. Print a test copy and scan it with two phones before you print in bulk, since a damaged or tiny code is the usual reason scans fail.
