Bank reconciliation where every line has a status

Every bank line has a status, and deposits are matched to the invoices they paid.

Bank lines with a status

Each deposit and withdrawal is uncategorised, categorised, matched, excluded or a draft, and lines filter by status, account, dates or narration.

Reconciliation goes wrong when nobody can tell which bank lines have been dealt with. Fint gives every deposit and withdrawal one of five statuses and shows what it is linked to.

  • Uncategorised: landed, not yet explained.
  • Categorised: given an income or expense category.
  • Matched: linked to the invoice it paid or the expense it settles.
  • Excluded: deliberately left out, such as a transfer between your own accounts.
  • Draft: proposed by the AI agent and waiting for a person in the Inbox.

You can filter lines by account, direction, status, dates or words in the narration, which is usually how a month end starts: show me every uncategorised deposit.

Matching that avoids double entry

Deposits to invoices

A customer payment matched to its invoice updates receivables and the customer ledger.

A customer payment is matched to the invoice it settles, which updates outstanding receivables and the customer ledger.

Bills to recorded money

A late bill is offered up to five matching bank rows, each with a reason.

When a bill turns up after its bank line is already in, Fint searches for the recorded row it belongs to and offers up to five candidates, each with a reason in words, for example same amount, two days apart, the supplier name in the narration. The bill is attached there instead of becoming a second expense.

Money with no invoice

Interest, refunds and transfers can be proposed as deposits; owner money is recorded as capital.

Interest, refunds and transfers can be proposed as deposits with an income category. Money an owner or partner puts in is recorded as capital, with no category, so it never inflates the year's income.

When a recorded row is wrong

The AI agent proposes corrections for wrong rows, and a person accepts or rejects them. Review checks flag uncategorised rows before GST summaries.

Wrong date, wrong label, a duplicate, a refund recorded as income: the AI agent does not quietly fix these. It proposes a correction, which a person accepts or rejects. Review checks also list uncategorised bank rows for the period so they are cleared before the GST return summaries are read.

If your bank data lives in a system Fint does not cover, our document and OCR automation work handles statements and bills for client-built pipelines.

Questions

Can the AI match a payment to an invoice by itself?

It can suggest the match and the reason, but recording a payment is done by a person in Fint. The agent cannot record payments.

What happens to a partner's capital contribution?

It is recorded as capital, lands on the bank balance, and appears in no income figure.

How do I find what is still unexplained?

Filter bank lines by status uncategorised, or run the review checks for the period, which list them.
